The Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science invites expressions of interest from outstanding early career researchers who wish to apply for the Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship scheme for the 2026 round. This is a postdoc opportunity.

We welcome proposals from exceptional scholars in economics and the social sciences working on topics aligned with our research themes in climate change, environment, and sustainable development. Selected candidates will receive full institutional support to develop a competitive application to the Leverhulme Trust ahead of the funder deadline on 19 February 2026.

Confirmation that you are eligible for the scheme. Main eligibility criteria are:
– UK academic connection: Candidates must either hold a degree from a UK higher education institution or hold a fixed-term academic position in the UK at the time of application.
– Doctoral status: Candidates must have submitted their doctoral thesis for examination by 19 February 2026.
– PhD submission window: Candidates must have submitted their thesis no more than four years before 19 February 2026.
– Postdoctoral experience: Candidates must not have held postdoctoral research positions totalling more than three years.

Funding provided

The Leverhulme Trust offers generous support for early career researchers:

Year 1: 100% of the Fellow’s salary, up to £56,000
Years 2 & 3: 50% of the Fellow’s total salary costs, up to £28,000 per year (the remaining salary is funded by the host institution)
Research expenses: Up to £6,000 per year for the duration of the fellowship
