The Inflation Reduction Act:

Is Place-Based Green Industrial Policy Effective?

Next Webinar, June 25, with Joep Kuezenkamp

While the Inflation Reduction Act has been'gutted' by House Republicans, our next webinar showcases research into its effectiveness.

Join Joep Kuezenkamp, University of Utrecht, showcasing his latest research estimating the short-term effects of a place-based green industrial policy embedded in the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

The IRA targets “Energy Communities”—areas historically dependent on fossil fuels—with enhanced tax credits for solar and wind energy. These communities are characterized by long-term economic decline and are considered vulnerable to the energy transition. Using a difference-in-differences approach, the research compares treated and untreated areas to assess impacts on investment, labour demand, and political outcomes.

The Economic Benefits of Scientific Research

Upcoming webinar from eftec and UKCEH | July 9, 10:00 - 11:00

Research providers are under increasing pressure to prove their value for money and report the impact of the information they generate. eftec and UKCEH have helped several clients with this challenge over the years, revealing the value chain of their research and benefits and value that are generated. Applications include the value of corporate carbon disclosures, non-financial reporting, species monitoring, citizen science, marine measurements and more!

In a recent project, eftec looked at two of the UKCEH’s publicly-funded data platforms, and found that the information provided about one non-native species alone is likely to avoid £10 million per year in management costs. UKCEH and eftec continue to work together to apply the approach to other data platforms and research programmes.

The webinar will cover the approach to valuing data, insights and research; example projects where these approaches have been applied, and UKCEH's experience in commissioning and using this research.
