The ecological-economic response of the fishery to mangrove restoration

Ecosystem restoration is promoted as a nature-based solution to support both ecosystems and livelihoods, yet evidence on how it reshapes local economic behaviour and wellbeing remain scarce.
We will be hosting Professor Charles Palmer to discuss how ecological restoration can reshape livelihoods, markets, and consumption patterns in ways largely unanticipated by program designers. This research studies the ecological-economic response of fisheries to mangrove restoration in over 5,000 planting sites in the Philippines.
About the speaker
Prof. Charles Palmer is an environmental and development economist with over 20 years of experience in teaching and research on the economics of land-use change and forest management. Much of his research is focused on the design and evaluation of policy, particularly policies relevant to biodiversity conservation, climate change and sustainable development. The scope of previous and current work extends to Europe, Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa and South-East Asia. Prof. Palmer has been a member of the faculty of the Department of Geography and Environment at the LSE since 2009.

The call for papers, posters, and panels for envecon 2027, UKNEE's annual applied economic conference, is open. We welcome papers, posters, and, for the first time, proposals for panel sessions. Full details are on our webpage.
envecon 2027 will take place on March 5, 2027 at The Royal Society, London. Occurring since 2003, envecon is the only environmental economics conference in the UK that brings a large delegation of policy makers together with research providers, NGOs, and the private sector. It is a unique opportunity to meet peers, address decision-makers, and discuss the latest research and policy implications.
This year, we are particularly interested in fresh perspectives on how we can make a positive change for nature, people and the economy: evidence that tests conventional wisdom, links protection of nature and economic growth, or shows how targeted interventions create the conditions for such change.

Progress towards integrating nature into business decisions
Little Blue Research and Biodiversify survey
Following their initial research and white paper from 2024, Little Blue Research and Biodiversify have developed a survey to further understand the progress of integrating nature into business decisions. The purpose of the survey is to collect and share how industry has evolved since 2024 since the launch of the recommendations of the TNFD. The research output looks to provide insights to sustainability and nature practitioners. Little Blue Research and Biodiversify will donate £5 to an environmental charity per response completed.
The white paper will collate and anonymise results from the survey. You can find out more and take the survey here.
